Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Most hyaluronic acid serums have one form of the ingredient and a big number on the label. This one has four.
Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a lightweight daily serum built on four different forms of hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer, sodium hyaluronate, sodium acetylated hyaluronate and hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate, formulated to hydrate skin at multiple depths for a smoother-looking, plumper complexion. It is for guys who want a real hydration layer under a moisturizer, not a gimmick step. Apply a few drops to clean, dry skin, morning and night, before moisturizer.
What is actually in it
Four separately named forms of hyaluronic acid on one ingredient list. Most serums that say "hyaluronic acid" on the front only carry one form, usually plain sodium hyaluronate, which sits mostly on the surface. This formula stacks a crosspolymer, standard sodium hyaluronate, an acetylated form built to resist breaking down as fast, and a hydrolyzed, lower molecular weight form that can reach deeper into skin, so hydration works at more than one level instead of only on the surface. The base runs on propanediol and glycerin instead of drying alcohols, and the emulsifier, sorbitan oleate decylglucoside crosspolymer, is plant-derived. There is no fragrance in it, nothing added to mask a cheap base.
Why this is $34.99 and not $80
A serum stacking four forms of hyaluronic acid instead of one usually sells for two to three times this price, especially once it gets marketed as "multi-molecular-weight" or "5D hyaluronic acid" on a prestige label. Almost none of that premium is the formula, four forms of one ingredient are not exotic to source, they are just more expensive than buying one form and calling it a day. What you pay extra for elsewhere is retail margin, a wholesale cut, a name on the box and unsold stock sitting in a warehouse. We sell direct and make to order, so the money goes into the dropper instead. Read the ingredient standard for how we spec every formula.
Why LookMaxxers choose this serum
- Four separately named forms of hyaluronic acid, not one form with a big number on the label
- Includes a hydrolyzed, lower molecular weight form most single-HA serums skip
- Zero fragrance, nothing added to cover a cheap base
- Plant-derived emulsifier instead of a silicone-heavy feel
- Lightweight enough to layer under any moisturizer without pilling
- Works for oily, dry or combination skin, hydration is not the same thing as oil
How to use it
Apply a few drops to clean, slightly damp skin, morning and night, then seal it with a moisturizer while skin is still damp, that is what actually holds the water in. Give it time and judge it at 8 weeks, photographed in the same light. Not at 8 days. A serum's job is hydration and texture, changes show up gradually.
Is hyaluronic acid good for oily skin?
Yes, hyaluronic acid hydrates without adding oil, and dehydrated skin can actually overproduce oil to compensate, so a lightweight HA serum can help balance an oily complexion rather than make it worse. Look for a water-based, oil-free serum like this one and always follow with a moisturizer to lock the hydration in.
What order do you apply serum and moisturizer?
Serum goes on clean, ideally still-damp skin first, then moisturizer on top to seal it in, going from thinnest and most water-based to thickest and most occlusive. Applying moisturizer before a hydrating serum blocks the serum from doing much of anything.
Does hyaluronic acid actually hydrate skin or is that overstated?
It genuinely hydrates, hyaluronic acid can hold significant amounts of water and different molecular weights reach different depths of skin, which is why formulas using multiple forms tend to outperform single-form serums. It needs to be sealed with a moisturizer, applied to dry skin in a dry room it can occasionally pull moisture from skin instead of the air.
Can you use hyaluronic acid serum every day?
Yes, hyaluronic acid is well tolerated for daily use, morning and night, under a moisturizer and, during the day, under SPF. There is no need to cycle it the way you would an active ingredient like retinol.
